Safety guide
Meeting people across cultures should feel considered. Here are the practices that keep Qiao useful and safe.
If you are in immediate danger
Contact your local emergency services. Qiao cannot provide emergency assistance or emergency services.
Consent before contact
WeChat QRs are never public. Only members you approve can view them while access remains active.
No money, ever
Qiao introductions are never paid. Be wary of anyone asking for transfers, investments, gift cards or IDs.
Share less than you think
You never need to share your home address, employer, identity documents or financial details.
Before you meet
Choose a public place
For a first meeting, pick daylight, a familiar and busy café, gallery or public space. Tell someone you trust where you are going, who you are meeting and when you will be back.
Take your time
Notice inconsistent stories, manufactured urgency and pressure. You can decline, stop replying or block at any point without explaining yourself.
Keep your independence
Arrange your own transport, pace your drinking, and do not leave drinks unattended. If something feels wrong, leave. Your instincts deserve to be taken seriously.
WeChat and QR safety
- Your QR is shown only to the member you accepted, through a protected server endpoint, after their grant is checked again.
- If you replace your QR, hide your profile, block someone or your account is suspended, existing access stops immediately.
- Do not post or forward someone else's QR. Screenshots cannot be recalled, but access can be revoked.
- Qiao never adds friends, reads chats or operates a WeChat account automatically.
When something is wrong
Block
Blocking prevents future requests in both directions and removes the relationship from discovery for both people. You do not need to report first.
Report
Report someone if they break the rules, make you feel unsafe or attempt fraud. Staff review reports independently.
